The Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC), one of Asia’s most historic golfing establishments, has joined the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF).

 

Established in 1893, this private members’ club is centrally located in a prime area of the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur, boasting spectacular views of the iconic Twin Towers and the city skyline.

The club is set within a sanctuary for wildlife and nature-lovers, a short distance from the bustling capital of Malaysia. The two 18- hole parkland golf courses – the Old Course and New Course – have hosted multiple tournaments over the years of the club’s existence.

The original host of the Malaysian Open, RSGC staged this national tournament over many years and in 2016, when it was co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour. Other notable events that have been hosted at the club include the Maybank Championship, the Malaysian Masters, the LPGA’s Tour Colgate Far East Open and the Alfred Dunhill Cup Asian Qualifier.

Ray Stopforth, RSGC’s General Manager, said: “The Royal Selangor Golf Club is one of the premier golf clubs in Malaysia with a long and illustrious history of golf and other sports activities. The club has played a prominent role in shaping sport within Malaysia, particularly within the game of golf, and stands out in its prominence with some of the best golf courses and clubs known throughout the world.”

Eric Lynge, the AGIF’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “With a rich history dating back more than 125 years, The Royal Selangor Golf Club is a doyen of the regional golfing scene and holds a special place in the annals of Asian golf. We’re pleased to welcome them as a Golf Course Facility Member of the Federation.

“The RSGC turfgrass team, headed by Course Superintendent Jack Cheong, has taken part in recent AGIF Certificate in Greenkeeping sessions, supported by The R&A. We look forward to the continued participation of the club’s staff in our various educational programmes.”
