Amsterdam has a new green and sunny terrace. In the middle of the hip, hot, and trendy Amsterdam-East, guests of all ages are welcome for open-air breakfast, coffee, lunch, tea, afternoon drinks or dinner around the pond inside the beautiful courtyard of KIT Royal Tropical Institute.

The new garden of Cafe De Tropen is open! And, when the Dutch weather permits, chef Hans Ribbens sparks up the fire under his world-famous barbecue. So experience Amsterdam in a relaxed open-air setting, enjoy the fun, the sun and the BBQ!

Home smoked
The Tropen-menu is also radiating with sunshine, offering a wide variety of different cuisines from a croque-monsieur, to grilled hot dogs with ‘heksenkaas’ and a baked potato for the children, a sandwich with Indonesian rendang beef, or even a poké bowl with home-smoked salmon. “We marinade it in a mixture of brown sugar and sea salt for 24 hours and then it is cold-smoked twice. It takes a lot of time, but it’s worth it as it tastes so good!”, says chef Hans Ribbens. De Tropen Café and Restaurant is open daily from 10:00 am.

Amsterdam Oost (East)
Amsterdam Oost, the Eastern part of Amsterdam, is an upcoming area of the city. The whole area has been evolving and there are now dozens of hotspots, more of which seem to be popping up each day. While the centre of Amsterdam is accustomed to being filled with tourists, Amsterdam Oost remains a less-explored area. Which means that there are many things to discover and everyone can find something to tickle their fancy, from hip coffee tents to charming markets.
