I don’t know about you but I always wonder when I am checking in for a flight and saying goodbye to my bags whether I will even see them again!

I also have to say though that I have been very lucky [touch wood] and have only once not had a bag arrive at the other end.

In any case being the highly innovative airline that they are, the guys at Korean Air have clearly been hard at work during the COVID-19 crisis as they have launched an amazing new piece of technology.

So, now when flying Korean Air from Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, when you do nervously wave goodbye to your baggage and wonder whether it will get to the other end you can now feel much more reassured it has been loaded on to the aircraft as Korean Air will send you a message to your phone to say it has, for example, “Your bag KE123456 has been loaded on flight KE082 bound for New York (JFK).”

Now, how reassuring is that – simply amazing!

The system is available for all international flights departing Incheon International Airport from June 1 with Korean Air’s mobile app sending out push notifications to inform passengers that their baggage is safely loaded, with the service gathering information from the baggage reconciliation system [BRS] that matches barcode information scanned from the check-in and loading processes, with the BRS ensuring that the bags are on the right flight and provides baggage tracking.

So, here’s how it works: When your baggage is checked, its transported to the loading area in front of the aircraft through the baggage handling system [BHS].

When the BRS confirms that the baggage has been loaded, the passenger receives a notification, relieving any anxiety about whether the baggage is on the plane.

The service is available to Skypass members with Korean Air’s mobile app who have enabled push notifications and even better news is that Korean Air plans to expand the service to other global airports.

I say well done Korean Air!
