For the first time, Hurtigruten invites adventurous guests to experience a whole new side of the British Isles. From the Isles of Scilly in the south – including the Orkney Islands and the Inner and the Outer Hebrides – to the Shetland and Faroe Islands in the north, Hurtigruten will explore a total of more than 20 islands.

“We are proud to offer the British Isles Hurtigruten expedition style. These sustainable new itineraries are our off-the-beaten-track approach to waters, coastlines and islands brim-full of unique experiences and destinations rarely visited,” says Hurtigruten CEO Daniel Skjeldam.

 Top-tier itineraries

Hurtigruten’s new hybrid expedition ship MS Fridtjof Nansen will, alongside the MS Spitsbergen, offer four slightly different combinations of islands and landings.

All itineraries comprise exceptional scenery, wildlife and local culture. Additional to outdoor activities such as hikes and kayaking, the voyages feature highlights such as visits to Sir Lachlan McLean in his 800-year-old Scottish Castle, a call at bird-spotters’ mecca of Fair Isle, and visits to the Isle of Islay with its eight whisky distilleries.

“We are thrilled to fuse sustainable activities, nature and culture into one exceptional adventure bundle at less explored locations,” Skjeldam says.

To enrich and deepen the guest experience, all Hurtigruten guests explore side-by-side with a hand-picked expedition team. The team’s experts share with guests their extensive knowledge across marine biology, sustainability, history, oceanography and photography.

“An Hurtigruten expedition cruise is a life-changing experience with knowledge at its core. Our expedition teams give lectures on their respective fields of expertise and explain and discusses all the interesting events shared on and off ship,” says Skjeldam.

The centre of all knowledge activities is the onboard Hurtigruten science centres where guests and experts meet over microscopes other scientific equipment to learn about the nature they encounter on their voyage.

Guests are also invited to participate in a range of citizen science projects.
