The rich history in Coolgardie in Australia’s Golden Outback dates back to the gold rush era in the late 1800s and it’s about to get spooky.

For the first time, ghost whisper and medium Anthony Grzelka is coming to Coolgardie on Friday 13th March and Saturday 14th March to lead two ghost tours that include the Warden’s Court, Post Office Building and the old gaol yard.

Ghost tours will be limited to 20 people and there’s an added option for six people to stay for a séance.

Australia’s Golden Outback CEO Marcus Falconer said that there have been rumours of supernatural activity in Coolgardie.

“There are lots of stories of people who report seeing a white lady ghost upstairs in the Warden’s Building as well as reports of other activity in some of the heritage buildings – noises, moving objects and the like,” Marcus said.

“You never know, a visit from the Ghost Whisper could be the beginning of paranormal tourism for Coolgardie.”

Anthony, a seasoned medium, has been interacting with those “on the other side” for 25 years and said he is looking forward to visiting Coolgardie.

“I’ve been to Kalgoorlie many times, and in fact I visit Kalgoorlie for work at least once every year, but I’ve never been to Coolgardie – I’ll be experiencing it for the first time with those on the ghost tour,” Anthony said.

“When I feel the energy, I encourage people to use their cameras, the spirits or ghosts or energy as I often call it, often shows up in a photo, sometimes as a figure, a shadow, or other times like a smear or flash of light or a round self-illuminating orb of light.

“The way I like to explain it is that there are three kinds of ghosts or energy. There’s psychic fingerprinting, which is energy left over from an event – for example there may be a ghost that appears at a specific place at a specific time and date.

“There are ghosts that are still caught in the atmosphere and are haunting a location, those are the one you can interact with fairly easily.

“The third type are the spirits that are connected to someone in the group, those on the other side who guide or come to visit.”

Anthony said that interacting with spirits is not like you see in the Hollywood films.

“They can’t do much to hurt you – they don’t wrestle you to the ground and choke you like you see in horror movies,” Anthony said.

“They might move something or bang something to make a noise, in fact, I encourage that so we know that the energy is present.

“In the 20 years that I’ve been doing this professionally, the most I’ve seen has been a scratch and it’s only happened twice, it’s very rare.

“One time, a husband who was dragged along to one of my sessions, let’s call him a non-believer, was taunting the spirit in his mind, and he ended up running out crying scared. That doesn’t happen very often. Some energy or spirits don’t like to be taunted.

“It’s innate in us to communicate with the other side, it’s natural and we can all do that and get information and messages, it’s just that some people recognise the signs and others ignore them.”

Anthony recalled an encounter when he helped a grieving family settle a dispute by communicating with their recently deceased father.

“There were two wills, an old will which the family had, and a new will that no one could find. I was able to help them by connecting with their father and he pinpointed them to the exact place the will was,” Anthony said.

“Most of the time the message from loved ones who have passed is simply, ‘I’m okay’.

“After all these years, watching grief lift from a person when they know that their loved one is okay is still immensely rewarding. I’m in a privileged position to be able to help and it’s an honour to be able to.”
