Today Connexus Travel (formally known as Swire Travel) one of the largest corporate travel businesses in Greater China has signed a long-term technology sharing agreement with the newly created Australian travel technology company, Aeronology. Aeronology is based in Melbourne founded by Ahmed Fakhra and headed by Russell Carstensen.

The agreement covers the use of all distribution technology applications that Aeronology provides the travel industry with, including AeroTickets. www.aeronology.travel

Mrs. Gloria Slethaug, CEO of Connexus Travel, stated that her company has a focus on new technologies covering internal work efficiencies with robotic and integrated content for online transactions, NDC and travel industry API content. “Asia is changing rapidly, the volume of transactions in the Asian market is growing year on year while the costs are on the rise, and the old manual processes will not keep up with this demand,” Mrs. Slethaug explained.

“Legacy technology abounds in this market and Connexus Travel needed to break out and start an evolution.

Margins are reducing, costs are rising, and our suppliers and customers are now demanding connectivity that matches their needs and business direction. We are absolutely happy to be part of that change,” Gloria stated.

“The growth expected in Asia doesn’t match the operational reality – there are very few businesses that can match that growth organically. You do need cloud based transactional technology, robotic and online services to help our travel agents within Connexus Travel, and externally, to match that growth with productivity improvements.

That’s why we have partnered with Aeronology. They are globally cloud based, work in API’s web services we trust and are in the process of being NDC certified and they are very agile. I’ve known Russell for many years, and he has a history of delivery. That’s very important to Connexus Travel.”

Mr Carstensen stated “Asia was always going to be our focus for 2020, especially North Asia, and with our recent decision to be multilingual, starting with traditional and simplified Chinese, it was a natural connection to work with Connexus Travel. Connexus Travel has one of the best reputations in Asia, and it’s our pleasure to be their technology partner.

Gloria is ahead of her time, highly respected as a driver of change and has an understanding that the travel industry in Asia needs a huge dose of productivity improvement, not just employing more people or outsourcing, but making her existing team more productive by introducing new online and robotic tools of trade, while travel consultants can focus in providing value add customer service.

What Gloria and Connexus Travel have provided Aeronology is a gateway and catchment area of a population of over 7.5 billion people in Greater China. I’m sure there are other global markets that will open up. We have spoken about Korea, Japan, Singapore and Indonesia, all markets that need productivity improvements. Connexus Travel has a head office in Hong Kong and branch offices in other key markets within Greater China, namely, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and Hsinchu City.

Aeronology is proud of being connected with such an iconic business, and by using Connexus Travel’s connections in that market it will help drive new opportunities for them.”

Mrs. Slethaug stated that Connexus Travel is in for the long haul and has a long-term vision of how her business will provide value to her suppliers and customers. “Even in this current difficult climate my senior executive team and I felt it was the right time to start the long-term evolution of our business – we are playing the long game,” Gloria stated.
