With a number of destinations around the world currently experiencing the effects of over tourism, tourists are beginning to see the benefits of taking the road less travelled. With over 7,000 islands to explore, the Philippines is a traveller’s paradise, offering a huge range of destinations to take travellers off the well beaten track and away from the tourist trail.

Norjamin Delos Reyes, Tourism Attaché at Philippine Department of Tourism Australia and New Zealand, said,

“The Philippines has an abundance of beautiful places to discover, from pristine white beaches, and crystal-clear waters, to tropical jungle scenery with hidden caves and astonishing waterfalls. With so many beach fringed islands to explore, travellers will find that they don’t need to travel far to find a slice of untouched paradise. Here are some of our favourite secluded spots to discover.

Romblon Island

The hub of the Romblon Province, Romblon island is home to some of the best beaches in the Philippines, along with an abundance of waterfalls, stunning viewpoints and opportunities for island hopping. As the island takes a little more effort to get to, it keeps the crowds away making it the perfect spot to explore in peace. Ferries can be taken to the island from Tablas or Sibuyan Island.

Carabao Island

With motorbikes and boats the most popular forms of transport, Carabao Island is the perfect spot for a multi-day adventure. Located not too far from Boracay, the island offers opportunities for cliff jumping, beach hopping and swimming in the clear blue waters. The most popular way to access Carabao Island is from Boracay.

Sohoton Cove

Located just a one-hour hour boat trip from the popular tourist island of Siargao, Sohoton Cove is a must-see place for those seeking the perfect adventure. Home to some of the bluest waters, a tour of Sohoton Cove will transport travellers though phenomenal surrounding landscapes and peaceful lagoons.

Siargao Island

Referred to as the ‘surfing capital of the Philippines’ and voted best island in the world by readers of Conde Naste Traveler, Siargao is an adventure lovers dream. With idyllic blue waters, secluded beaches coconut woodlands, and emerald mangrove forest, the island is the ultimate hidden paradise. The island can be reached on trigger boats from Surigao city.

Caramoan

Located in the Bicol region of the Philippines, the island paradise of Caramoan can be likened to El Nido on Palawan yet feels far further from the tourist trail. Preserved by its seclusion, the islands offer white sand beaches, limestone cliffs, and beautiful islets to explore. Perfect for island hopping, Camaroan is only a 2-hour total journey from Manila by flight and boat.
