AN UPDATE ON PROJECT X

Project X presents a series of immersive public artworks in Tasmania’s Huon Valley, with the aim of bringing visitors back to the south in the wake of the bushfires that recently ravaged the island.

Here’s an update on Project X activities, including:

  • Extended season and accommodation promotion for Hrafn: Conversations with Odin,
  • New Dover location for The Aftermath Dislocation Principle,
  • New major Project X installation soon to be announced.

HRAFN: CONVERSATIONS WITH ODIN

CHRIS WATSON + THE WIRED LAB

Take a journey into the deep, dark wilds of the far south and follow your guide into the trees, where you’ll listen to 2000 ravens coming in to roost—an avian exchange of sound not usually witnessed by humans.

+ EXTENDED SEASON: With the warmer weather and later daylight hours, attendance numbers are increasing. There will now be an extended season from 31 October to 22 December 2019. The new extended season will mean that the work by Chris Watson will run between Winter and Summer Solstices.

+ ACCOMMODATION PROMOTION: Project X and Southern Trove have partnered on an Accommodation Promotion: stay a night in the region and receive two free tickets to Hrafn: Conversations with Odin. Only available on performance nights: Thursday, Friday and Saturday. See where to stay here.

WHEN: Thursday–Saturday, at dusk (times vary throughout the season),
1 August–22 December, 2019

WHERE: Hastings Caves, southern Tasmania (meet at Hastings Caves Visitor Centre 15 minutes prior to start time)

TICKETS: $45 / $25 for Tasmanians / Under 15s free

THE AFTERMATH DISLOCATION PRINCIPLE

JIMMY CAUTY

Peer through observation ports cut into a forty-foot shipping container at a vast landscape in miniature: a desolate, mythical English town in the aftermath of a riot, where only police and media crews remain… From the UK to Risdon Prison to Dark Mofo 2019, artist Jimmy Cauty’s dystopian creation continues its odyssey south with a twelve-month tour of the Huon Valley.

+ DOVER INSTALLATION: The ADP container artwork will be relocating from Geeveston to Dover on 31 October, and will be on exhibit there until 31 December.

+ CHILDREN OF THE AFTERMATH: There will be new recruitments for the Children of the Aftermath, who invigilate ADP, hand out information guides, answer questions about the work, and generally engage with the public. Jimmy Cauty believes children and young people are the best and most enthusiastic ambassadors for the work.

+ RIOT PAMPHLETS: A new Aftermath Dislocation Principle “Riot Pamphlet” for Dover is currently underway, with Tasmanian writer Andrew Harper engaging with local historians to uncover lesser known instances of activism, protest and struggles in the region.

WHEN: Open 24-hours a day, Thursday 31 October–Tuesday 31 December

WHERE: Outside Southgate Shopping Centre, 1 Station Rd, Dover, southern Tasmania, free

WITH: the Children of the Aftermath

Sunday 17 November, 11am–2pm

Sunday 8 December, 11am-2pm

After Dover, the ADP will continue its tour to: Southport, Franklin, Huonville, and Cygnet (tour schedule to be confirmed).
