South Australia’s record summer cruise season has officially begun following the arrival of Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess to Adelaide this morning.

Over the 2019-2020 season South Australia will see a surge in cruise ships sailing to and from the region with three Princess ships, including the 143,700 tonne 3,560 guest flagship Majestic Princess, completing itineraries to and from Adelaide.
Speaking onboard Sea Princess today, Princess Cruises Senior Vice President Asia Pacific, Stuart Allison commented on the cruise line’s continued commitment to the state.
For the first time in South Australia’s cruising history, Princess Cruises will make three international roundtrips from Adelaide’s doorstop including New Zealand, Fiji and South Africa,” said Stuart Allison.
“We are continuing to cement our presence in the region, gearing up for our record South Australian season next year where we’ll operate an unprecedented  20 cruises to and from Adelaide –  a move that represents the biggest ever cruise industry commitment to South Australia.”
Also speaking onboard Sea Princess today, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, David Ridgway welcomed Princess Cruises’ increased presence in South Australia, which has had significant flow-on economic benefits for the state.
“Princess Cruises’ investment in Adelaide has significantly contributed to the growing cruise industry in South Australia, and it is great news to welcome the first ship of the season,’’ said Minister Ridgway.
“The cruise industry is a critical part of our tourism industry, bringing interstate and international visitors here, and injecting more than $145 million, last season, into our local economy – in particular into regional areas where passengers really love the chance to get off and explore our great state.”
Phil Hoffmann, Managing Director of Phil Hoffmann Travel added, “Never before have South Australians had more itinerary choice when selecting a cruise holiday. It’s really exciting to be a part of history today as it is businesses like ours who will directly benefit as Princess Cruises’ operates more itineraries from Adelaide,” said Mr. Hoffmann.
The 2019/2020 Australian cruise season will be Princess’ largest in history. The 900+ day Australian deployment will see Princess carry more guests than ever onboard five ships on itineraries from Sydney, Perth (Fremantle), Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland.
The historic season is spearheaded by the maiden arrival of the 113,561 tonne 3,080 guest Ruby Princess and the second season return of the 143,700 tonne 3,560 guest Majestic Princess. Cruising 444 cruise days out of Sydney, Majestic and Ruby will generate a combined landmark capacity of over 100,000 guests, a 25 per cent increase on the 2018/2019 season.
