Effective from 1 August 2019, Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya has appointed Rudy Junaidie as the new executive chef who will lead and oversee the kitchen team of the hotel’s seven food and beverage outlets.

Chef Rudy has a long experience in the culinary field gained at various international five-star hotels; he started his career 24 years ago. Prior to joining Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, he had a career trail under Marriott Hotels and Resorts, including the Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort, Sheraton Subang Hotel & Towers, Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel and The Westin Kuala Lumpur.

During his career, Chef Rudy has won numerous prestigious international culinary competitions both as a result of teamwork and individual performance. In 2018, he was honoured as a certified ‘B’ level jury at WORLDCHEFS under the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS). He also represented the Malaysia National Culinary Team at the World Cup Culinary Competition in Luxembourg as well as the Singapore Salon Culinaire in 2002.

In carrying out his new duty as executive chef at Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, he will give his most to serve dishes that are liked by the people of Surabaya and introduce a variety of Asian and international specialties with the best taste and quality. His cooking style will be more into simple and classic dishes with a touch of innovation that is loved by the locals.

‘Surabaya, for me, has many similarities with my hometown in Malaysia, so I feel at home here’, said Chef Rudy. ‘In terms of culinary, although there are so many similarities between Malaysia and Indonesia, I understand that each community group has unique preferences, so I will continue to innovate dishes that are loved by culinary lovers in Surabaya.’

Chef Rudy likes cookbooks and learning about new cuisines. He is interested in many sports like football, tennis, snooker and motorsports. He often rides his bike to explore the beauty of the world and learn about the local food. He is also a big fan of Manchester United football club.
