Bringing together performance, agility and functionality, Nikon Australia is pleased to announce the launch of its new Z Series DX mirrorless camera, the Z 50 and two additional Z Lenses NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR and NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR.

The Z 50 is suitable for enthusiasts who like to express their creativity anytime, anywhere. The outstanding functionality of the camera’s tilting 3.2” touch-screen monitor allows users to bring their imagination to life instantly thanks to its superior operability and efficient interface characteristics.

The Z 50 is a compact, high-performance camera which inherits the quality, durability and ergonomics of the Z 7 and Z 6 but in a more agile form. The Z 50 has been designed with the content creator in mind, being engineered with built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and advanced image and video-making options. The camera’s lightweight and durable body makes it a preferred choice for photography and videography enthusiasts alike.

“We are excited to introduce the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR and NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR to complement our newly launched Z 50 camera, designed for creators to share their perspective of the world, be it in stills or videos. This camera kit is perfect for capturing everyday moments, street, travel or adventure photography and will deliver extraordinary optical performance and unmatchable imaging quality in a portable package. These lenses are perfect for photography and videography enthusiasts, enabling them to capture both wide angle and close up shots, making it the perfect camera kit to travel with,” said John Young, General Manager of Marketing at Nikon Australia.

Z 50 PRIMARY FEATURES

Goes wherever you go in style
Whether you are wanting to capture natural wonders on an overseas adventure or looking to create inspiring content, the Z 50 has been designed to capture moments at any time and in any location. The Z 50 comes with a larger dial placed on the exterior of the camera. Its compact upper grip shape has been designed for a firm grasp and allows the index finger to naturally reach the shutter-release button when the camera is held. For additional ease and convenience, all necessary buttons and dials are placed on the right side of the body.

Make it bright
Enter a new era of image quality with the Z 50. Featuring a new CMOS sensor and image-processing engine, as well as a whole suite of new features, the Z 50 with its effective pixel count of 20.88 megapixels delivers remarkable colour, clarity and sharpness. Adopting the same hybrid autofocus (AF) system as the Z 7 and the Z 6, the Z 50 comes equipped with one of the first Nikon CMOS sensors that incorporates phase-detection AF.

The Z 50 is also equipped with eye-detection AF which can be toggled to have the focus effectively centred to the eye or face of the subject. This enables users to achieve focus on the intended subject’s eye, even if the subject moves. Intuitive selection of an intended subject’s eye is possible, even when multiple human subjects are within the frame.

Taking advantage of the new EXPEED 6 image-processing engine, the Z 50 achieves a standard sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200, reducing noise effectively even at the higher end while maintaining resolution. Being in the dark is not a hindrance with a low-light AF performance down to -4 EV1, while capturing live action is made easy with 11fps2 high-speed continuous shooting.

Broaden your expressions and infuse your own style. Creators can also shoot with the camera’s extensive functions such as Creative Picture Control, Scene Modes and Special Effects, even while checking the resulting image through the monitor or EVF. Effects can be applied to both still images and videos, enabling users to easily express the exact vision they have in their mind, according to the situation.

Be in control
For selfies, group photos and vlogging, the Nikon Z 50 features a tilting 3.2 inch, 1040k-dot monitor, enabling smoother operation through easy touch controls that are similar to using a smart device.

With this camera, changing the settings is effortless and does not require going into the deeper menu layer. By accessing the i menu, users have instant access to the settings should they want to change according to the shooting situation. Pressing the i button also provides quick access to the menu on the monitor or EVF, letting a user change the settings instantly. This camera also features optical precision with an electronic viewfinder (EVF) beautifully crafted to perfection.

Perfect for capturing special moments such as a wildlife safari or intimate family celebration, the Z 50 comes equipped with the silent photography feature. This is the first time that this functionality has been employed on a Nikon DX-format model. When the exposure smoothing function is employed with silent interval timer or silent time-lapse photography, the low-light metering range is significantly extended. This means that transitions from sunset to moonlight, can be shot in one sequence while maintaining optimal exposure using aperture-priority auto, which is impossible with manual exposure mode.

Tell your story in motion
Creative photography enthusiasts and filmmakers alike will appreciate this camera’s wide array of movie functions, including full-pixel readout with no crop in 4K UHD, Full HD 120p with audio as well as in-camera slow-motion movie creation. Users can also select the Creative Picture Control option and record videos according to their artistic intentions.

Additionally, the Z 50 employs time-lapse and interval timer photography. 4K UHD and Full HD time-lapse footage can be produced within the camera. Its interval timer photography function makes it easier to add dynamic movements such as pan and zoom effects when creating time-lapse video in a smaller size.

On-the-spot Connectivity
Excellent for the creative types, the Z 50 is equipped with in-built Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi® for SnapBridge 2.6, enabling users to instantly share their snapshots on social media. This allows creators to easily transfer images and movies, utilise location and date information, browse for images from a smartphone, add credit information, automatic image upload to Nikon Image Space, and even shoot remotely.

The camera is compatible with two dedicated NIKKOR Z lenses, the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR and NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR, both featuring superior optical performance and agility designed to transform ordinary scenes, travel and landscapes into creative works. Together with the Z 50, they form a complete kit for users.

NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR PRIMARY FEATURES

Don’t let life’s amazing moments pass you by, instead capture them with the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR, a standard zoom lens, versatile for everyday use and covers the range from wide-angle 16mm to medium telephoto 50mm.

Capture perfect portraits with soft and beautiful bokeh characteristics in superior resolution that’s achieved across the entire focal-length range. The NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR offers:

  • Superb resolving power and high image quality, enabling the capture of fine details in the background or subjects at close distances. The employment of one ED glass element and four aspherical lens elements control colour bleeding and distortion across the entire frame from the centre to the periphery, creating images with stunning sharpness and crisp colours.
  • Spectacular, blur-free images are made possible with its built-in optical VR system that provides an excellent blur-correction effect equivalent to a shutter speed 4.5 stops[1] faster.

Lightweight and durable at approximately 135g for every occasion, the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR caters to users who want to enjoy a compact and nimble zoom lens that can capture a variety of scenarios, without compromising on high-image quality. The lens is ideal for shooting an extensive spectrum of scenes such as portraits, vlogs, flat lay and selfies to wide-spread landscapes, close-ups of flowers and accessories.

NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR PRIMARY FEATURES

If close-up portraits are not your thing, the NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR is a complementary lens that is brilliant for capturing stunning, crisp images at a longer shooting distance with a telephoto zoom that covers medium 50mm to super-telephoto 250mm range.

Capture your favourite musician performing at a concert or friends having fun at a carnival or festival. Superior resolution is reliably provided from maximum aperture regardless of focal length range or shooting distance. Despite being a telephoto zoom lens, you can get as close to subjects as 0.5m at maximum wide-angle position and 1m at maximum telephoto position. The NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR offers:

  • Effective compensation of axial chromatic aberration, resulting in reduced colour bleeding, with the employment of an ED glass element.
  • Sharp, blur-free images with ultimate reliability, with the lens’ VR system that provides an effect equivalent to a shutter speed 5.0 stops[1] faster, the maximum in the history of NIKKOR interchangeable lens[2].

This lens is ideal for users who want to take a wide range of pictures with a single lens from distant subjects that you cannot get closer to.
