Ethnotek offers culture we can carry. This global brand has a simple mission – to help keep culture alive by creating high quality laptop, camera and travel bags that feature ethically sourced, handmade textiles. Each purchase sustains employment for the art of hand printing, weaving and embroidery with their artisan village partners in Ghana, Guatemala, Indonesia, India and Vietnam. By creating new demand for traditional textiles, Ethnotek is helping these ancient techniques and processes to thrive.

Ethnotek stands for the fusion of two elements; ETHNO – Ethnology, anthropology dealing with the study of cultures, and TEK – Technology, the methods and tools a society develops in order to facilitate the solution of its practical problems. With Ethnotek these two elements combine to create something magical; a functional bag that allows you to carry a piece of global heritage with you on your day-to-day adventures.

Creator, Jake Orak, was on the search for a well designed, waterproof backpack that was produced sustainably and did some good in the world. When Jake couldn’t find what he was looking for he decided to make his own. What makes Ethnotek backpacks unique is the ‘Threads’ system. An interchangeable front panel made by, and bought directly from, artisans around the world. New Threads are released regularly, allowing customers to update the look of their bag without having to buy an entirely new one.

The range includes many backpacks, from daypacks right through to larger travel backpacks, a wide range of bags and slings, a new selection of cleverly considered camera bags and accessories such as wallets, organisers and toiletries bags. All Ethnotek products are produced to the highest ethical standards.

Popular in the Ethnotek range is the Raja 30 Litre Backpack. Packed full of features, this backpack is great for the daily commute as well as travel. It has space for laptops. It’s lined with water resistant nylon for extra protection from the elements. Side pockets offer easy access to passports and plane tickets. A quilted, lined side pocket means your phone won’t get scratched. Water bottles can be placed in the left stretch-mesh compartment. There’s even room for yoga mats, tent poles or skateboards to be clipped to side of the bag. Padded shoulder straps make this backpack very comfortable to wear and air-mesh keeps your back cool. It’s also carry-on approved. The only decision you have to make is which Thread to choose!

The Ethnotek Cyclo Cross Bag is another popular bag in the range. Great for the urban commuter or traveler, it’s a great size to sling over your shoulder. It is designed to fit passports, plane tickets, books or tablets. The roll top allows for maximum storage. The main compartment has a built in organiser. Hidden zipper pockets are perfect for phones and sunglasses. The strap is adjustable and a padded air mesh back panel makes the Cyclo really comfortable to wear.

Ethnotek is so much more than just a bag. It’s a celebration of culture and community. Join the tribe at ethnotek.com.
