Last night, Discova (formerly known as Buffalo Tours in Asia) was named ‘Most Sustainable Travel Company’ at the 30th Annual TTG Travel Awards 2019.

In recognition of ongoing sustainability efforts, Discova was selected by TTG Asia Media as ‘the travel company that cares deeply for the environment and community, and bridges local people to the world’.
Managing Director for Discova Asia, Suyin Lee, attended the awards ceremony and was delighted to receive the award on behalf of the company: “It’s nice to be recognised for something we are passionate about.

“We are motivated to excel in all that we do because of the difference we can make to the lives of others, not just today but for future generations.  Ninety-five percent of our people are local – they have grown up in the communities we operate in, so we feel a deep connection and commitment to these places.
“As we continue to expand our global network of DMCs, we recognise Discova’s influential position in creating meaningful change in the industry and are committed to looking after our planet. We have always taken a holistic approach to sustainable tourism development and are proud of the responsible initiatives we have implemented over the years.”
In Asia, Buffalo Tours had always been very focused on sustainable and responsible tourism; now rebranded as Discova these initiatives have the potential to be expanded on a greater scale across the globe. Extending community development tourism programs in lesser-visited locations, establishing a six-month Local Guide Ambassador Program for disadvantaged youth, reducing single-use plastics with environmentally friendly alternatives (such as refillable water bottles and compressed napkins) and spearheading a trial to test bio-fuel for transfer vehicles are just a few of Discova’s recent sustainability initiatives.
As part of an ICCA-TTG event hosted earlier this week at Incentive Travel & Conventions Meetings Asia 2019, Discova was invited as a key speaker on positive change for local communities. Regional MICE Manager, Sandy Peamsomboon¸ presented on company initiatives focused on community development and incorporating these further within the MICE industry.
