Includes pre-cruise stay, drinks with dinner and shore excursions

Australians can save almost US$1600 per couple on a classic cruise down the mighty Mississippi River that Mark Twain immortalised in his novel, ‘Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’, thanks to a new offer with the American Queen Steamboat Company from their Australian partner, Cruise Traveller.

The offer includes a saving of US$200 per person and the choice between two free cruise extensions, either before or after the voyage, worth US$599 per person each.

Two cruises from Memphis to New Orleans aboard the largest river steamboat ever built – American Queen – are available in March and November, 2020, exploring the legendary lands of bawdy blues, southern belles and drawls, majestic colonial mansions, cotton plantations, Civil War battlefields, Cajun and Creole cuisine and the iconic home of Elvis, Graceland.

The packages for both cruises begin with a one-night, pre-cruise stay in musical Memphis.  From there, guests board the 417-passenger American Queen – a fully-working, six-deck recreation of a classic, steam paddlewheeler. While the steamboat has the appearance and opulence of the American Victorian era, it is also equipped with all the modern amenities. Guests will travel south on the oak-lined Mississippi for seven nights, with complimentary excursions taking in glorious mansions, sprawling plantations, Civil War battler sites and historic river towns while cruising down one of the world’s most famous rivers that has inspired authors, musicians and artists for centuries.

The cruise concludes in New Orleans, where guests can visit the famous French Quarter with its jazz bars, Cajun eateries and toe-tapping buskers. Australians who book by November 30, 2019, can save US$200 per person and also choose from one of two free cruise extensions before or after the voyage worth US$599 per person.

The first option is an extra one-night’s stay in Memphis before the cruise, including an authentic, southern BBQ meal in a blues café, hosted walking tour, attractions and transport passes and a VIP tour of Graceland, the home of Elvis. The second option is a two-night stay after the cruise in New Orleans including a city tour, attractions and transport passes and a traditional jazz brunch in the French Quarter.

The cruises depart from Memphis on March 2 and November 16, 2020, with each package including one night’s hotel stay in Memphis before the cruise, seven nights onboard the American Queen, guided, hop-on-hop-off shore excursions, beer and wine with dinner and soft drinks, water and specialty coffees throughout the cruise. If booked by November 30, 2019, the package is available from US$3935 (March departure) per person, twin-share, including a saving of US$200 per person and one of the two bonus cruise extensions in Memphis or New Orleans.

American Queen Steamboat Company is the most award-winning, authentic and opulent river cruise line in America, offering the most inclusive cruises with guided shore excursions, nightly Broadway-calibre entertainment and regionally inspired fine dining included in the fare.
