Organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), this year’s Filmekimi will be held in collaboration with TV+. Filmekimi will take place between 4 and 13 October. The festival will travel through to Ankara and İzmir during October.

Filmekimi will be the leading cinema event of October, as it is each year, with a programme consisting of films that were shown and awarded in leading world festivals as well as highly anticipated new productions. Filmekimi, in collaboration with TV+, will be held for 10 days between 4-13 October in Istanbul. Filmekimi will continue to present the best and most recent films of the year to film lovers in Ankara and İzmir as well.

The stars of Filmekimi

Of the films announced so far for this year’s Filmekimi, films that had their world premieres in prestigious festivals, particularly Cannes, shine out. The most recent film from Noah Baumbach, Marriage Story, Steven Soderbergh’s The Laundromat, Xavier Dolan’s latest film that made him compete in Cannes’s main competition and already became one of the best films of the director, Matthias & Maxime, a film by one of cinema’s most explosive creators Takashi Miike which was shown at the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes First Love, only Chinese film that competes at the main competition at Cannes The Wild Goose Like, a film which had its premiere at Cannes and gathers Isabelle Huppert, Brendan Gleeson and Jérémie Renier together Frankie, Taiwanese independent director Midi Z’s latest film which had its premiere in the “Un Certain Regard” section at Cannes, Nina Wu, and Bertrand Bonello’s latest film Zombi Child, Giuseppe Capotondi’s Venice closer The Burnt Orange Heresy, and many others will cover this year’s program of Filmekimi.

Also included in the programme are Shannon Murphy’s Babyteeth, which brought its co-lead Toby Wallace the Marcello Mastroianni Award at Venice; Terence Malick’s Cannes title A Hidden Life, Vaclav Marhoul’s Jerzy Kosinski adaptation The Painted Bird; Taika Waititi’s Toronto prize-winner satire Jojo Rabbit; Lou Ye’s Venice Golden Lion contender Saturday Fiction; Noah Hawley’s Toronto debut Lucy in the Sky; and Olivier Assayas’ Wasp Network.

Award-winning films at Filmekimi

As usual, Filmekimi roster features award-winning films from prestigious festivals. The line-up of Filmekimi gathers films that have been awarded by world’s prestigious festivals Pedro Almodóvar’s Pain and Glory, which made an impression by both critics and audience and brought Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor to Antonio Banderas, Jessica Hausner’s new film Little Joe, which awarded Emily Beecham with Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress are included in this year’s line-up. In addition to that, Alice and the Mayor, which was selected as the best film in Directors’ Fortnight section, Albert Serra’s Liberté, which created a tremendous impact at Cannes with its radical, daring, surprising and courageous scenes, owner of the Award for Best Screenplay at Cannes Portrait of A Lady on Fire and Jury Prize winner Bacurau can be seen in Filmekimi as well. Finally, Bruno Dumont’s Jeanne, Christophe Honoré’s On a Magical Night, and Swallow by Carlo Mirabella Davis and many more will be at Filmekimi.

Oscar Nominees at Filmekimi

Film lovers will once again have the opportunity to see an antology of Oscar nominees in Filmekimi this year. Bong Joon-ho’s Palm D’or winner Parasite and César Díaz’s award-winning and Belgium’s Oscar nominee Our Mothers, Brasil’s Oscar nominee Karim Aïnouz’s  award-winning film which had its premiere at Cannes this year The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusmão, Alejandro Landes’ Sundance Special Jury Prize winner and Columbia’s Oscar nominee Monos, Levan Akin’s And Then We Danced, which was announced the Swedish candidate to the Oscars, and this year’s Romanian Oscar nominee, Corneliu Proumboiu’s The Whistlers and many more will be screened at the Filmekimi this year.

Tickets to go on sale on Saturday, 28 September

Tickets for the 18th edition of Filmekimi will be on sale in Istanbul on Saturday, 28 September at 10.30 at Beyoğlu Atlas, Kadıköy Rexx cinemas as well as Biletix sales channels (Biletix.com, Biletix Call Center, sales points). Ticket sales in Ankara and İzmir will be made through the Biletix sales channels (Biletix.com, Biletix Call Center, points of sale) starting from 28 September and from the box offices at the relevant cinemas one day before the screenings begin. Filmekimi tickets will be available for purchase through all sales channels with no added service fees.

Ticket Prices

Weekday daytime screenings (11.00, 13.30, 16.00) are only 12 TL.

Weekday daytime screenings (19.00) are 30 TL; for students and seniors (over 65) 18 TL.

Weekend screenings (11.00, 13.30, 16.00, 19.00) are 30 TL; for students and seniors (over 65) 18 TL.

All 21.30 screenings are 30 TL.

All of the Filmekimi Ankara and İzmir screenings are 25 TL; for students 17 TL.

The 18th edition of Filmekimi films will be screened at five movie theatres in İstanbul: Atlas and Beyoğlu movie theatres in Beyoğlu district, Cinemaximum City’s in Nişantaşı, and Kadıköy and Rexx movie theatres in Kadıköy.

Cinephiles will have a chance to watch Filmekimi films in Ankara at Cinemaximum Cepa and in İzmir at Cinemaximum Konak Pier.

Tulip Card members will be able to purchase their tickets in advance at up to 25% discounted rates. These discounted early bird tickets can be purchased by Black and White Tulip members on Tuesday, 24 September, and by Red, Orange and Yellow Tulip members on Wednesday, 25 September, Thursday, 26 September and Friday, 27 September.
