If you struggle to plan a holiday to please your whole family, and the thought of it makes you feel more stressed than excited, you’re not alone. New YouGov Galaxy research commissioned by Booking.com, the global leader in connecting travellers with the widest range of incredible places to stay, has revealed millions of Aussies (1.2 million) have never been on a family holiday. To show Aussies that the impossible is in fact possible, Booking.com is taking Australia’s Biggest household, The Bonell Family, on a weekend away.
In celebration of the upcoming school holidays, 21 members of the Bonell family will be packing their bags and jet setting off on Australia’s favourite type of getaway, a beach holiday, to Port Douglas. With more than one quarter of Aussies (28%) saying they can’t find a holiday destination to please the whole family, and more than one in ten Aussies saying suitable holiday accommodation (12%) is too hard to find, the Bonell’s weekend away is sure to restore faith. If they can do it, anyone can!
When it comes to the perks of family holidays, two million Aussies say the best benefit is having their parents or grandparents pay for the holiday, and more than half (58%) say it’s sharing favorite memories and making new ones. On the flip side, the most popular pet peeve for Aussies when travelling with their family is choosing where to eat and the ordering process (37%), closely followed by sharing bedrooms and hearing your family snore (35%).
As a selfie-obsessed nation, nearly one quarter (16%) of Aussies base their family holiday location on where they can get the best selfie and almost one in ten (9%) say their biggest problem when travelling with their family is not having their own mirror!
