Today is the day Celebrated Living magazine, the premium-class publication for American Airlines, announces the winners of its prestigious 2019 Platinum List Awards. Hand-picked, expert judges and the public have finally spoken and we now know the best of the best in travel today.
Following thousands of votes being cast and counted across the 150 nominees, 73 winners from 24 countries have been chosen and the definitive list of the best resorts, hotels, cruises, fine dining and nightlife spots around the world is revealed.
Thirteen distinguished experts from the worlds of media, food, the arts and luxury travel comprised this year’s panel, including Travel + Leisure editor-in-chief Jacqueline Gifford, CNN travel editor Brekke Fletcher, World’s 50 Best Restaurants academy chair Evelyn Chen, Virtuoso CEO Matthew Upchurch and DestinAsian editor Christopher Hill.
The winners appear in the September/October issue of Celebrated Living magazine for American Airlines online and inflight.

“Though the victors represent a wide range of styles and locations, some clear trends emerged, including an increasing emphasis on unique and striking details: Scotland’s Fife Arms, for example, is a painstakingly restored 19th-century hunting lodge, also counterintuitively filled with vibrant contemporary art. In Detroit, the Candy Bar in the Siren Hotel envelops guests in a retro-modern décor designed entirely in shades of pink. Social media has inspired hospitality professionals and travellers to embrace one-of-a-kind environments unlike anywhere else.
Another enticement can be the remoteness of the property. Minaret Station on New Zealand’s South Island can only be reached via helicopter, and guests thrill to the untamed adventure of the resort. Meanwhile, Nayara Resorts immerses visitors in the lush Costa Rican rain forest.
Some hotels have eschewed expected trappings to create the feeling of staying in a lavish private home. In Southern California, guests enter the new Rosewood Miramar Beach through an elegant front door and step into a foyer reminiscent of a Beverly Hills mansion. In Sonoma County, the rustic-chic Farmhouse Inn is informed by the convivial gatherings that were once hosted by the owners’ great-grandparents. Of course, the classic allure of grand travel never fades, and readers can find it here represented by Zurich’s lakeside Baur au Lac and London’s Hotel 41, across from the gardens of Buckingham Palace. In the world of fine dining, tradition and innovation combine at New York’s legendary Le Bernardin, which revolutionised the preparation of seafood in America; we speak exclusively with owner Maguy Le Coze and chef Eric Ripert.
