With National Rum Day falling in August, award-winning bar Nutmeg & Clove collaborates with Rum brands – Barcadi, Mount Gay and Sailor Jerry, to welcome bartenders from renowned bars in Southeast Asia for three takeover shifts, on 16, 24 and 31 August.
On 15 August, Thursday, from Southeast Asia, Thailand, Nutmeg & Clove is proud to host three of Thailand’s prominent bar figures who have brought substantial breakthrough to the cocktail scene in their regions.
Co-founder of Bangkok’s Backstage Cocktail Bar and #FindTheLockerRoom, and Winner of Global Bacardi Legacy 2019, Neung Ronnaporn. With his well-known signature cocktail, Pink Me Up, Neung has put himself and Bangkok on the map. Niks Anuman, owner of Thailand’s first gin bar, founder of Asia’s 50 Best Bars Teens of Thailand, and Asia Today; Niks is known for successfully introducing unknown exotic Thai ingredients to his menus to expose both local and overseas guests to the Thai culture. The Bar Awards Bangkok’s Bartender of the Year 2018, Pop Direkrittikul from Eat Me has made famous his Thai food-based cocktails that are freshly made.
On 24 August, Saturday, the bartenders from Indonesia shakes up cocktails with flavours of their home ground. From Nautilus Bar, Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, Campari Cocktail Competition Finalist Darren Defretes features his handcrafted signature libations with home-blended ingredients. Co-founder of Pantja, Kabir Suharan uses his extensive knowledge from his years of experience working with Diageo’s luxury spirits portfolio to develop historical cocktails.
On 31 August, Saturday, bringing it closer to home, Nutmeg & Clove closes the month with Malaysia Takeover. From Asia’s 50 Best Bars and Best Bar in Malaysia, owner of Coley and Pahit, CK Kho; CK has contributed significantly to the growth of the Kuala Lumpur’s bar scene and has continued to revolutionised the industry in Southeast Asia. Ultimate Bartender Championship 2018 winner Janice Lau from the first speakeasy in Malaysia, Omakase + Appreciate, brings the bar’s cosy and personalised experience to the guests in Singapore. Shirmy Chan, Bar Manager of Hyde 53M and Giffard Cup Asia Champion 2019, serves up classic drinks with a twist.
In the month of August, Nutmeg & Clove celebrated this beautiful liquor that originated from Caribbean sugar plantations in the 17th century with these guest bartenders from Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, to showcase and bring out the flavours of their home ingredients and culture.
