Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ low-cost arm, is adding 16 Airbus A321neo aircraft to support growth plans – joining the 20 B787 Dreamliners and other planes already in its fleet.
Scoot’s 16 new A321neo aircraft will arrive progressively from the last quarter of 2020.
The first aircraft, named “Wings of Change”, will be delivered in the final quarter of 2020 and will be used to serve medium-haul markets – routes within six hours of Singapore.
Scoot says its new fleet will enable it to meet its double-digit growth plan by the end of financial year 2020/2021. Of the 16 aircraft, six represent an increase on Scoot’s current A320neo order from Airbus, while 10 will be leased.
The single-aisle A321neos, powered by Pratt & Whitney engines, will be fitted with 236 seats, 50 more than in the A320neo.
Scoot chief executive, Lee Lik Hsin, said the new A321neos would “inject growth possibilities to our network plans for 2020 and beyond”.
“Customers will be greeted by our brand-new cabin interiors; with seat products they are already familiar with. We hope the process of introducing this new fleet into our Scoot family will be as exciting for our customers as it is for us.”
Scoot anticipates the A321neos will save 12% of fuel, compared to its A320neos – and 20% as compared to its A320ceos.
On the environmental front (increasingly important), the airline expects a 50% reduction in noise and nitrogen oxide emissions, as well as a reduction of 5000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year per aircraft.
With the A321neo, Scoot says it will be able to operate its single-aisle flights with unmatched levels of efficiency.
Scoot took to the skies in June 2012 and merged with Tigerair Singapore in July 2017. Scoot’s network presently encompasses 68 destinations across 17countries and territories, with nine more destinations (in India, Indonesia and Malaysia) joining the network by the second half of 2020.
