No newcomer to the sport Kenya has a long association with golf which took off due to Australian Peter Thomson who launched the Kenya Open Golf Championship in 1967. Still taking place today the Kenya Open Golf Championship has attained European Tour status and hosting the tournament rotates between Karen Country Club and Muthaiga Golf Club.

Often overlooked as a golfing destination, East Africa offers a treasure trove of world-class golf courses. Guillaume Durand, Group Director Sales & Marketing comments: “Kenya offers international golfing standards with courses featuring outstanding design and landscaping. In addition, the weather is ideal for golf all year-round making Kenya one of the world’s top golfing destinations. Our new package combines the best of both worlds; play and safari adventure. Perfect for both amateur and professional golfers this new package celebrates Kenya’s golfing legacy, cosmopolitan lifestyle and nature taking travellers from the capital, to the tranquil surroundings of Mount Kenya concluding in the Masai Mara one of the finest wildlife destinations in the world.”

Fairmont The Norfolk

The golf and safari experience kicks off with a two-night stay at the celebrated Fairmont The Norfolk – a landmark hotel with alluring old-world charm set around tranquil tropical gardens providing a welcome oasis from the downtown bustle.

Day One

After breakfast excursions include the city’s best education-conservation attractions including the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust famed for its elephant orphanage and the Giraffe Centre, home to the endangered Rothschild species. At noon the Talisman, one of Kenya’s most popular restaurants, is the spot for lunch followed by play on the 18-hole championship course at Karen Country Club – established in 1937 – which played host to the 2019 Magical Kenya Open. In the evening guests can enjoy dinner at the Norfolk’s signature steak restaurant Tatu.

Day Two

Following breakfast, it’s time for play on the 18-hole championship course at Muthaiga Golf Club; home of the Kenya Golf Union. Lunch is taken on club grounds in the Members Pavilion. After play guests have the option to indulge in a spa treatment at Fairmont The Norfolk or pay a visit to the National Museum of Kenya. The day ends with indulgent cocktails and canapés at The Norfolk’s Cin Cin Lounge bar.

Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club

The second stop on the circuit includes a two-night stay at Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, the former home of actor William Holden, which marks its diamond anniversary this year. The exclusive retreat not only straddles the equator, but is also nestled in the foothills of Africa’s second highest peak (Mount Kenya) and is dedicated to conservation projects and wildlife conservancy. The property offers a manicured 9-hole course, the only golf course in the region known to bisect the equator.

 Day Three

Upon arrival at Mount Kenya Safari Club guests will be greeted by a fanfare of traditional dancing and partake in an Equator Ceremony. Lunch follows in the gorgeous Rose Garden and afterwards guests can either unwind with an exclusive spa treatment or hit the green for a round of golf. For dinner guests will dine in the new Colobus Grill restaurant. Renovated from the former private members’ room, the restaurant offers a diverse a la carte menu with produce grown locally in support of the community surrounding Nanyuki.

 Day Four

Guests have a spectacular breakfast view following a short drive through the neighbouring forest which leads them to a prominent view of Mount Kenya and breakfast with Champagne al-fresco. Guests can travel back to the hotel via car or on horseback trekking through the stunning grounds. The afternoon includes a visit to the onsite animal orphanage and The Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy notable for the breeding of the endangered Mount Kenya antelope – the bongo and rare white zebra. A contemporary fusion of continental and Kenyan inspired dishes can be enjoyed for dinner at Tusks restaurant.

Fairmont Mara Safari Club

The three stop journey concludes with a two-night stay at the tented camp resort Fairmont Mara Safari Club. In a prime spot in the Ol-Choro Oiroua Conservation area that borders the Masai Mara Game Reserve, the resort offers the perfect base for guided safari game drives (sunrise and afternoon) within its conservancy to spot the big five amongst other wildlife. The resort’s proximity to the National Reserve offers a front row seat to see the herds of wildebeest and other wildlife making their seasonal crossing. Whilst on property at Mara Safari Club guests can get involved in a number of conservation activities such as a visit to the White Rhino Conservancy; a project created as a partnership between Fairmont, the resident Maasai community and the Kenya Wildlife Service. Creating a safe haven for endangered species, the project is also committed to the overall welfare and co-existence of humans and wildlife within the Masai Mara.

Day Five

A warm Maasai welcome awaits guests upon arrival, after which a short drive to the property offers the chance to spot wildlife. In the afternoon guests can join a shared game drive which includes a sundowner; where with a drink in hand guests can watch the sunset over the magnificent African savannah. Dinner is taken back on property at the Hippo Deck which overlooks the creatures in the river directly below.

Day Six

This day is dedicated to safari adventure with morning and afternoon shared game drives. The last night includes an unforgettable dining in the wild experience.
