The Greg Norman Golf Course Design (GNGCD) layout at Mission Hills will prove a demanding test for competitors on the PGA Tour Series-China.
Danger lurks at all turns on the Greg Norman Course at Mission Hills.
While Mission Hills has hosted previous Tour events, including the inaugural PGA Tour Series-China tournament in 2014, players have never competed on the Norman Course.
That will change during the last week of July when the course stages the Dongguan Open.
Sculpted by Australian Norman, a two-time Open Championship winner and World Golf Hall of Fame member, the Dongguan layout has frequently been rated among the most difficult courses in Asia.
The PGA Tour Series-China Series has already played eight tournaments this year. Six more tournaments will make up the remainder of this year’s schedule, commencing in mid-July in Guangzhou and concluding the week of October 14-20 in Hong Kong at the season-ending Clearwater Bay Tour Championship.
The Series, in its fifth season, has crowned eight champions in its first eight events, Bai Zhengkai becoming the first Chinese winner of 2019 at last month’s Huangshan Championship.
“We have had a tremendous 2019 season to this juncture. Those tournaments we’ve already held will help set the stage for the final six tournaments on our schedule,” said Greg Carlson, PGA Tour Series-China Executive Director. “We’re pleased that we can provide such high-level tournaments at world-class golf courses for our fans to watch these players both from China and the rest of the world pursue their professional dreams.”
Following the Huangshan Championship, the Tour is in the midst of a one-month break before Nansha Golf Club hosts the Guangzhou Open for the first time (July 18-21). The Tour will remain in Guangdong Province the following week for the Dongguan Open, at Mission Hills Golf Club’s Norman Course.
The Tour will observe one more break following the Dongguan Open, this one for six weeks, before the final push of four events to conclude the season.
“We’re anticipating an exciting finish to this season,” Carlson added.
