Adventure travel specialists Explore has seen a fourfold rise in passenger numbers on its five day Discover Chernobylshort break since the hit series Chernobyl was broadcast on 7 May 2019.

Explore began offering trips to Chernobyl in 2016 with a specialist short break. Following its huge success Explore launched its Discover Chernobyl short break in 2017. Since then the itinerary has been Explore’s fastest selling trip and the operator increased the number of departures for 2018 by 50% and then again by a further 23% for 2019.

Explore’s Managing Director Joe Ponte commented: “The programme has become the highest-rated TV series of all time and has inspired many people to discover more about the historical disaster and to want to visit the Exclusion Zone. The safest way to do so is with an expert guide on one of our small-group tours.”

The Discover Chernobyl short break includes two days exploring inside the Exclusion Zone featuring the town of Pripyat, the Red Forest, Chernobyl Docks and the ‘New Safe Confinement’ structure shell around Reactor 4.

On the trip there is also the opportunity to meet a self-settler – one of the few people who chose to return to their home after the accident and has been living within the outer Exclusion Zone ever since.

The 5-day trip is currently included in Explore’s Flash Sale which begins on 6 June and ends on 17 June 2019. In the sale the trip will cost from $1,160pp (SAVING $200pp). The price includes 4-nights’ accommodation, breakfast, 2 lunches, 1 dinner and an Explore Leader. Departures are available all year round, prices may vary.
