Plus – New fly/cruise package from Australia with free drinks

One of Europe’s major river cruise lines, Riviera Travel, has announced a new eco program which will see the removal of single-use plastic bottles and straws and small toiletries from its fleet of five-star river ships.

Taking effect immediately on Riviera’s 11 ships operating in the heart of Europe, plastic straws have been replaced by re-usable glass straws or paper straws. Plastic water bottles have been replaced by re-usable, Riviera Travel branded bottles – free of bisphenol A (BPA) chemicals – that passengers can use at home as well. And in a further bid to cut waste and protect the environment, small, individual toiletries in cabins have been replaced by refillable toiletry cannisters

Australian sales manager for Riviera Travel, Thomas Morgan, said Riviera was committed to sustainable cruise practices and to protecting the environment.

“Riviera Travel is determined to maintain the beauty of the rivers we cruise on in Europe but, hosting 45,000 passengers a year on 300 sailings, we also want to play our part in reducing global waste and protecting the environment,” Mr Morgan said.

The biggest river cruise operator in the UK market, Riviera Travel began selling its European river cruises to the Australian market in 2016.
