Liberal Democrats Senator Duncan Spender has a plan to restore fuel prices to the glory days of paying $1 per litre.
“Every time you fill up your vehicle at the bowser, the tax man puts his hand in your pocket and takes more of your hard-earned cash to pay for the government’s excessive fuel excise,” Senator Spender explained.
“Last year, Australians paid over $18,000 million in fuel excise.
“That is $18,000 million out of the pockets of ordinary, hard-working Australians in order to fund reckless government spending.
“The Liberal Democrats believe that fuel excise on fuel should be immediately scrapped in order to bring down the cost of living for Australians.
“Only the Liberal Democrats have a fully costed plan to lower the cost of fuel to $1 a litre.”
Senator Spender’s plan to restore $1 fuel prices is part of his alternative Budget, which also includes tax cuts that would save Australians an average of $8,000 a year on income tax.
“My alternative Budget outlines ways in which we can deliver a $34 billion surplus, after more than a decade of budget deficits from both Labor and the Coalition.
“It also includes ways we can start paying off the debt that’s hanging over the head of future generations.
“By adopting measures in my alternative Budget, we can abolish fuel tax to bring back the glory days of $1 fuel,” he concluded.
