Vasco da Gama, the latest addition to the fleet of Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV), will today set sail on her maiden voyage from Singapore to London Tilbury.

Vasco da Gama is the fifth ship in CMV’s fleet, with the leading independent cruise line this year celebrating 10 years in operation.

The ship will make destinations such as South Australia, Tasmania, Australia’s north west, and Southeast Asia more accessible and affordable for Australian guests when she arrives in Sydney this December.

Managing Director of Cruise & Maritime Voyages Australia, Dean Brazier, is looking forward to having Vasco da Gama as CMV’s primary Australian ship during the summer months.

“We are delighted to have Vasco da Gama officially a part of our fleet,” says Mr Brazier.

“The ship will offer an extended range of amenities and dining options on board, while retaining the intimate country-club feel that our guests know and love us for.”

“This ship will offer Australians more destinations at affordable prices, giving our guests the chance to explore their own backyard and beyond in a new way.

“With Vasco da Gama, we will become the first cruise line ever to visit Wallaroo, and our other maiden visits for us will include Kuri Bay, Broome, Portland, Phillip Island and Sandakan in Borneo.”

The ship is named after Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama, famous for being the first European to reach India by sea.

Following in the footsteps of the famous explorer she is named after, Vasco da Gama’s maiden voyage will sail off today on a spectacular 44-night voyage visiting destinations including Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Mumbai, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Morocco and Portugal, before arriving in London Tilbury.

The maiden voyage is fully booked, including all 40 solo traveller cabins, with half of guests onboard travelling from Australia and New Zealand. Other guests on the voyage predominantly come from the UK, Germany and USA.

Guests can visit wish list destinations like the Taj Mahal in India, the Valley of the Kings in Egypt and the hilltop towns of Santorini in Greece, while enjoying the amenities on board the ship. Other highlights of the voyage include: the beautiful beaches of Malaysia and Thailand; the lost city of Petra in Jordan; shrines to ancient Pharaohs in Egypt; some of the holiest sites on Earth in Israel; the eternal city of Rome; and the souks in Marrakech.

After spending summer in Europe, Vasco da Gama will then set sail from London Tilbury 9 October 2019 on a 53-night voyage to Australia, calling in Barbados, the Panama Canal, Acapulco, islands of the South Pacific, Auckland, concluding in Sydney, where she will cruise for the Australian summer season, homeporting in Adelaide and Fremantle.

To celebrate the ship being 222 days away from arriving in Australia, CMV will be offering AUD $222 of free onboard credit for the next 2 weeks in Oceanview cabins and above on selected Vasco da Gama bookings.
