Hong Kong’s flourishing art scene comes to live in March every year. Residing on Wellington Street in Central, Tycoon Tann proudly announces its upcoming art exhibition “Her Sense, Her Philosophy” with local emerging artist Liane Chu from 11 March (today) to 31 May 2019. Celebrating the roots of Hong Kong’s culture through dining and art, Tycoon Tann invites all guests to revel in the art exhibition, creative cocktails and specially crafted 8-course art-inspired tasting menu to kick off art month.

“Every March, Hong Kong ushers in an inspirational spectrum of local and overseas art and culture events. It is the best month of the year to explore Hong Kong in an artsy way. At Tycoon Tann, we are continuously supporting various talented artists from all over the world and especially Hong Kong with an exhibit space for their pieces. We believe talent is regardless of age. This year, we are delighted to collaborate with local emerging artist Liane Chu and showcase her all-new collection which we hope drives inspiration and stimulates creativity. We invite all guests to indulge in this imaginative journey blending the worlds of art and food,” says Cherry Lo, Managing Director of bma Catering Management.

The new pieces by Liane Chu on display at Tycoon Tann’s dining rooms are from her new collection titled “Her Sense, Her Philosophy.” By using acrylic paint, oil paint and mixed media, Liane weaves the tangible with the abstract of Chinese landscape painting. The theme of the exhibition is “cracke splash,” which revolve around emotions and life philosophy of herself. With different natural sceneries, it symbolises that no matter how difficult or imperfect life is, there is always hope and a way to find your genuine beauty and shine. The entire collection consists of 8 new art pieces including “Drizzles in Spring,” “Fearless,” “Qiantang Lake,” “Mountains,” “Ascending Feilai Peak,” “Breeze,” “Red Flag,” and “Fly High,” all hoping to inspire life philosophy and bringing the positive energy “to find light in the darkness.”

Currently studying in City University in Hong Kong, Liane Chu grew up in Hong Kong, and has lived and studied in Shanghai and New York. Apart from traditional studies in Hong Kong, Liane has also completed many art courses including in Academy De Barrerio, Donghua University in Shanghai, Parsons School of Design and National Academy of Art in New York and Florence Acaedmy of Art. Her works are inspired by philosophies and beliefs. Throughout our learning path, she believes one needs a positive attitude towards obstacles and failures in life in order to succeed, which reflected in her work with depth and meaning. Young and talented at the age of 21, her works have been exhibited at the New York Art Expo, the Art Shopping Carrousel du Louvre in Paris and Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong. Liane had collaborated with different brands such as her “Her Scent, Her Philosophy” collection with Thai herbal cosmetics Bodhi.

Local artist Liane Chu said,” I’m happy to collaborate with Tycoon Tann and I believe it’s a perfect match for the brand and my new collection. For Tycoon Tann, this collection was conceived to showcase a Western approach to Chinese cuisine which is within the DNA of its cuisine. The cuisine re-interprets traditional dishes by combining innovative ideas and offering a meeting of East meets West dining experience. I use Western techniques and materials from the West to inflict thought upon the Chinese identity and heritage, paying homage to the Chinese women that have inspired me.  I combine an impressionistic portrayal of nature’s beauty, with silhouettes of female figures and natural flora and fauna to illustrate an empowering message: perceiving the importance of being proud of one’s culture and heritage. “Her Sense, Her Philosophy” offers a meeting of East meets West cultures, a well put together between different cultures and a gastronomic journey blending the worlds of art and cuisine.”

“I hope life affects life and I want to deliver the message of positive attitude towards difficult times. For many years, I have changed my habit of erasing and I started not to erase any mistakes and try to think of ways to make it charm. As I believe every mistake is beautiful and it literally reflects our lives! Cracks represent different themes, be it an experience, an ongoing extending root in the sand, a breakthrough or power in our minds. I often paint a black surface first and started to paint with colours, as I hope my artwork ultimately can deliver a message of hope and positivity. My art pieces symbolise no matter how difficult life is, you can overcome the obstacles, finding your inner beauty and be your better self,” Liane said.

Inspired by Liane’s works, Tycoon Tann is delighted to present diners with an art-inspired 8-course tasting menu.
