Rio de Janeiro boasts beautiful natural landscapes that blend with the busy life of Brazil’s second largest metropolis, ensuring a unique and unforgettable lifestyle. A perfect setting to enjoy its famous and democratic beaches or to practice outdoor sports. But when night falls, the city, voted more than once as the best destination for LGBT tourists in Latin America, has a list of breathtaking bars and parties for both locals and tourists. In summer, the options multiply.

An LGBT stronghold in the city, rua Farme de Amoedo, in Ipanema, Southern zone of Rio, concentrates many gay bars. That’s where foreigners and locals gather to kick off the night in a flirting atmosphere. Those who prefer a cheaper but equally lively version can meet up in one of the bars at rua Voluntários da Pátria, in Botafogo, also in the Southern Zone. Here, the joy and diversity of Rio is evident in a reunion of several tribes. Not far away, Combinado Carioca, a bar in Humaitá, is another busy site.

Once the night has been kicked off, it’s time to head off to one of the traditional nightclubs or one of the dozens of itinerant parties that promote monthly editions. The first option is Galeria, a classic of Rio’s gay night, with a few good years of existence in the trendy Ipanema. The program is varied, and the venue is open from Wednesday to Sunday. One of the highlights is the party Treta, on Wednesdays. Another suggestion is the party The Week, in the Port area. But if you want to get hammered and enjoy a trashy but fun night, go to 1140. A huge venue in Praça Seca, Jacarepaguá, with different environments and over 20 years of existence.

The party list is great. It has something for everyone Chá da Alice, Boho, Funfarra, Balaia, V de Viadão, Tretona (the itinerant version of the party held at Galeria), Vaca Profana, Sopa and Bagaceira are some of the best known and occur in spaces of the Southern and Port areas and in the city Center. But to know about these parties you must stay tuned to social networks. The editions have no defined date and location. It’s worth searching.

In the summer, especially during carnival, some LGBT carnival groups also promote parties. The scheme is the same: to enjoy them you must keep an eye on social networks. Among the most popular, Candybloco – which promotes 10-hour parties – Sai Hétero, Tome Conta de Mim, MUG and Sereias da Guanabara. The entertainment is free and guaranteed.
