An authentic safari experience doesn’t mean forgoing a little luxury. Just ask specialist safari operator, Sanctuary Retreats, which has recently unveiled a raft of upgrades to its Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp.

The extensive facelift to the Camp is the latest to be revealed as part of the multi-million-dollar investment program currently rolling out across the Sanctuary portfolio, and firmly positions the boutique retreat amongst the most exclusive luxury accommodation in Tanzania.

Most significant amongst the changes, all ten of the Camp’s classic canvas tents have been beautifully redecorated and furnished with an earthy natural palette, highlighted with reddish-browns accents and the pale yellows of acacia blossom, to complement the biodiversity of the surrounding terrain.

The epitome of ‘glamping’, tents feature contemporary ensuite bathrooms, complete with indoor camp showers. Other mod cons include hairdryers, plug points and gym bags containing yoga mats, weights, skipping ropes and resistance bands. Even better, each tent comes with its own designated attendant, on hand to bring guests restorative tea and coffee first thing in the morning and ensure the camp shower is the perfect temperature whenever required.

Elsewhere, an entirely new raised lounge area and dining room feature wraparound decking, plus an extensive terrace delivering panoramic views over flat-topped acacias.

As its name suggests, Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp is situated in Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater Rim Valley, arguably one of Africa’s most dramatic landscapes. Its location on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Site provides guests with unrivalled access to the crater floor, home to an extensive assortment of animals including zebra, buffalo, warthog, wildebeest, hippo and elephants; along with an amazing population of predators – lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and even the elusive leopard.

The Camp itself offers stunning vistas, overlooking a deep valley lush with verdant rainforest. And the journey to Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp is equally spectacular, navigating a serpentine road past Maasai herders and their cows, along the rim of the crater swathed the clouds.
