The second of P&O Cruises’ two ‘drought relief’ cruises is sailing from Sydney on Pacific Explorer with more than 90 NSW farmers and family members enjoying time-out from the drought on a four-night cruise to Moreton Island.
The farmers can look forward to a very warm and generous welcome from Moreton Island’s Tangalooma Resort.
Pacific Explorer’s departure follows last week’s four-night drought relief cruise on Pacific Dawn from Brisbane which featured a spectacularly warm welcome from the Airlie Beach community in the Whitsundays.
When former rodeo rider and now dedicated cattle farmer Buddy Statham (pictured with his wife Maureen) cruised on Pacific Dawn last week, he was no stranger to the joys of ocean travel.
In 1966, Buddy sailed on P&O’s famous Oriana from Auckland to Vancouver and as the photo shows was in to all the pool sport action showing the prowess of his rodeo-riding skills.
“I made it to the finals but I was a little bit over confident and missed out on the prize,” Buddy said as he fondly recalled the fun and excitement of his first ocean voyage.
Now aged 80, the ever-youthful Buddy and Maureen shook off the cares of the drought on Pacific Dawn and danced up a storm during the cruise.
Now it’s hoped nature will dance up a drought-breaking storm for them on their Central Queensland property.
