A unique chance to experience some of South America’s most spectacular destinations from the colonial splendour of Chile’s Santiago and Lima in Peru to the equatorial cloud forests of Ecuador to the one of a kind Tierra del Fuego Archipelago.

On 17 November 2019, Latitude 33 will host its 32-night Tropical Wonderland to Peaks & Fjords journey, staying in some of South America’s most stunning hotels in Santiago, Ecuador and Peru, before embarking on an unforgettable 18-night cruise along the continent’s Pacific and southern coastline on board HANSEATIC Inspiration.

This unique adventure begins in Santiago, Chile, with 2 nights at Cumbres Lastarria, in the heart of the city’s Lastarria Quarter, famous for its rich cultural history, museums, shopping and restaurant scene. From Chile, guests will fly to Quito, Ecuador’s capital, where they will spend 3 nights at boutique luxury hotel, Casa Gangotena in the heart of San Francisco Square, with a chance to indulge in the hotel’s signature cuisine, Cocina Mestiza – a tribute to Ecuadorian gastronomy.

Next up is a 4-night stay at Mashpi Lodge, a luxurious hideaway located on a high plateau three hours’ drive from Quito. Here, guests can choose to relax in this veritable cocoon of luxury amongst the clouds. But for the more adventurous, the location deep in the heart of the Ecuadorian Choco rainforest, offers one of the world’s greatest biodiversity hotspots and the perfect place to spot rare species of flora and fauna from the breathtaking open-air Dragonfly Canopy Gondola.

From Ecuador, guests will travel to Lima where they will spend 2 nights at the luxurious Belmond Miraflores Park, with its renowned Tragaluz Restaurant set amid verdant gardens and a spectacular rooftop pool offering up endless Pacific views.

On 28 November, the next phase of this unique itinerary begins as guests embark on an 18-night cruise on board the eagerly anticipated expedition ship, HANSEATIC Inspiration, launching in October 2019.

Sailing from Lima to Argentina’s southernmost city, Ushuaia, guests will travel through some of the world’s most remote and spectacular scenery, with highlights including: flocks of pelicans and Humboldt penguins at Isla Pan de Azucar; Isla Chanaral, home to seabirds and seals; the colourful city of Valparaiso; the tranquil villages of Isla de Chiloe; and the colonies of Humboldt and Magellanic penguins on the island of Punihuil – the only place in the world where two species breed in direct proximity to each other.

A stop at Puerto Montt with its breathtaking backdrop of snow-covered volcanoes, is a chance to explore the Chilean lake district, paddling down the river between lush, green forests, mountains and glaciers accompanied by experienced guides.

Arriving in Chile’s Southern Fjords region, guests will sail past the imposing Pio XI Glacier rising out of the ocean, while keeping a watchful eye for whales off Puerto Natales. A scenic tour through the Torres del Paine National Park takes in dramatic mountain ranges, peaceful fjords and shimmering lakes, with condors soaring overhead, before the cruise passes through the Strait of Magellan to Punta Arenas.

As the journey continues further south, guests can hike in Magallanes National Reserve or take a zodiac to see the Magellanic penguins on Isla Magdalena. The mighty Garibaldi Glacier in the Beagle Channel and the serene landscapes of the Garibaldi Sound provide a fitting final double act for the cruise before passengers disembark in Ushuaia on 16 December 2019.

From here, guests will fly to Buenos Aires for three nights at the Alvear Art Hotel where they can explore the city’s charming cobblestone streets and take in a mesmerizing tango performance before flying home to Australia.

Departing on 17 November 2019, prices for Latitude 33’s Tropical Wonderland to Peaks & Fjords journey start from $32,099 per person twin share, including all accommodation, return airport transfers, return international economy class airfares from Australia, one-way charter flights from Ushuaia to Buenos Aires and all transfers and baggage handling.
