Leading tour group company Walk Japan, pioneers of guided walking expeditions across the unique landscape of Japan together with Japan Travel Company, has partnered with the country’s Oita Prefecture to launch the new English version of www.discover-oita.com.

The collaboration is set to encourage travellers to visit this relatively undiscovered part of Japan, with fascinating destinations such as Kunisaki, where Walk Japan is based, a picturesque and verdant peninsula that is a haven of rural life that today belies its history as one of the greatest centres of Buddhism in Japan; Beppu, which has been a seaside resort destination for centuries and boasts more onsen hot springs than anywhere else in Japan as well as a vibrant and thriving cuisine, arts, crafts and music scene; Yufuin is a refined, onsen hot spring town in a spetacular rural setting towered over by Mt. Yufu-dake, an extinct volcano, and here the idyllic paddy fields surrounding and the town’s traditional and elegant  architecture are as intriguing as the famous hot springs which include some of the finest in the country.

This engaging, functional and easy to navigate website hhas been put together by Walk Japan in collaboration with Oita Prefecture to promote the beauty, destinations and unique culture of the region to visiting English-speaking travellers. Additionally, the website provides insider knowledge on what’s on in the area, and how to best plan your visit.

All facets of Japan’s culture is explored on www.discover-oita.com, from the best in regional cuisine such as gourmet Michelin restaurants and secret eateries and bars that only locals know about. Also featured is the best in relaxation in the sublime onsen hot springs, festivals and music, art galleries, knowledge of ancient and modern traditions that will enhance your stay, the buzzing nightlife and where to find it, family-focused adventures and, of course, accomodation – from charming traditional inns, called ryokans, to luxury hotels.

The website also offers detailed advice on Japanese social customs and etiquette, as well as currency and logistical advice. Areas such as Kyushu, Kunisaki and Oita will all be part of Walk Japan’s highlights in 2019, as the company looks forward to guiding visitors through this little-explored part of Japan.

The Oita Prefecture is found on the north-east coast of the island of Kyushu, which is the third largest island of Japan, located on the southwesterly end of the archipelego.

Walk Japan has been leading seasoned travellers and newcomers alike with tours crafted for people who not only like to walk but who also love to discover, understand, and appreciate the landscape and culture of Japan. The tours are hosted all across the country, from the northernmost island of Hokkaido, stretching down through Honshu to cover the North, Central and West of Japan’s principal island, and further down to the south of the country throughout regions Shikoku and Kyushu, as well as Okinawa.

An experience with Walk Japan is like no other, with tour sizes kept to a maximum of 12 people. Each tour is led by an informed and enthusiastic guide through the traditions and barely touched terrain of the lesser-known rural areas of Japan. With a diverse range of tour lengths and activity levels, travellers walk at an enjoyable pace, taking the time to see a countryside not often explored by tourists. Allowing for a deeper connection to Japan than an ordinary tour provides, walkers retire each night in Japanese inns, or ryokans, scattered throughout local villages, where they enjoy authentic and superb seasonal regional cuisine and indulge in the famous onsen hot spring baths.
