With World Rhino Day coming up this Saturday, 22 September, we wanted to share the latest news from award-winning, luxury experiential travel company andBeyond about their rhino conservation efforts. World Rhino Day was first announced by WWF-South Africa in 2010 and has since grown to become a global phenomenon, uniting concerned organisations and individuals alike. Poaching is at an all-time high throughout Africa due to the illegal demand for rhino horn, which continues to escalate.

andBeyond believes that it is crucial to implement local solutions on the ground and has invested heavily in stringent security measures at all their reserves in the country. Rhinos Without Borders is a partnership between andBeyond and Great Plains Conservation that aims to translocate a hundred rhinos from poaching hot spots in South Africa and to set up an alternative breeding population in Botswana. Some employees of andBeyond have dedicated more than 20 years to this noble cause, personally overseeing the translocation of hundreds of rhinos.

Unless active steps are taken to stem the tide, extinction will be the result. Guests who want the hands-on opportunity to become involved in rhino conservation are invited to take part in the andBeyond Phinda Impact Journey, which includes the chance to take part in a rhino dehorning or notching operation at andBeyond Phinda Private Game Reserve. A percentage of the itinerary costs goes towards rhino conservation.
