  1. Renewal of subsidy for promotion

The HCVB subsidy program has been modified in the following two regards to attract more conferences and events held in Hiroshima.

(1) Expanded eligibility criteria.

The new criteria will cover a wider range of international conferences and events including those with 100 participants.

(2) Simplified application

The HCVB has also simplified the previous subsidy program which consisted of subsidies for two different categories; promotion and venue fees. Based on the new program, the HCVB will provide a subsidy up to 3,000,000 JPY (approx. 27,200 USD) which shall not exceed 20 % of the expenses subject to support.

Due to these modifications, the HCVB subsidy system has become much easier to apply for. The Convention Promotion Department of the HCVB is looking forward to being contacted by those of you who are considering Hiroshima as a destination for your next conference. You can contact the HCVB from this contact form.

  1. Grand Opening of Hiroshima Convention Hall

The Hiroshima Convention Hall celebrated its grand opening on June 1st, 2018.

This convention venue with two halls (700 square meters each) is located just a 5-minute walk from the JR Hiroshima Station, the main hub station in Hiroshima.  Its opening has made the area around Hiroshima Station even more attractive for meeting planners.  The area is currently being redeveloped as an ideal location for business events, with a growing number of convention venues and hotels including Sheraton Grand Hiroshima Hotel.

  1. 13thInternational Fatigue Congress will be held in Hiroshima in 2022

The HCVB is proud to announce that the 13th International Fatigue Congress will be held for the first time in Japan in Hiroshima in 2022.

The series of International Fatigue Congress have been held in many countries across the world since its first meeting in Sweden in 1981, but not until now yet in Japan. Fatigue is the dominant factor determining the reliability and safety of machines and structures quite common in our daily lives like cars and airplanes, and the International Fatigue Congress provides an opportunity for researchers across the world in the field of science and engineering to present their wide range of research findings and latest technologies concerning fatigue phenomena, and based on these will serve as a platform for active discussion and further outreach.

One of the reasons why Hiroshima was chosen by the administrative board of International Steering Committee of the International Fatigue Congress (IFC) is that Hiroshima is a famous city which people from all over the world would like to visit.

The HCVB provides more information regarding the 13th International Fatigue Congress from here.

  1. Two successful international conferences were held in Hiroshima

Two successful international conferences supported by the HCVB were held in Hiroshima in July 2018; the 25th International Congress on Sound and Vibration (July 8th to 12th) and the 2018 Inaugural Joint World Congress of Stuttering and Cluttering (July 13th to 17th).  It is notable that the number of participants of the latter significantly exceeded expectations without being affected by the flooding that had hit Hiroshima earlier in July.  This was thanks to the effort of the organizer to reassure participants that they could get to Hiroshima safely providing them with real-time traffic information via Facebook and organizers’ app.

Around 30 international conferences will be held in Hiroshima in the rest of 2018.
