Jetstar plans to operate an additional service to the Cook Islands from 28 October 2018 and Qantas has applied to Australia’s International Air Services Commission (IASC) for an allocation of 204 seats per week on the route.

The Cook Islands has an appealing and unaffected charm that many visitors compare to the way bigger and more famous island destinations were 20 or 30 years ago.

In a letter accompanying its application, Qantas makes clear that the allocation sought is for Jetstar, which plans to operate an extra service on the Cook Islands route using an A320 aircraft configured with up to 186 seats.

Accordingly, Qantas has requested an allocation of 204 seats per week for five years, on the understanding “the capacity will be fully utilised by 31 January 2019”.

In accordance with section 12 of the International Air Services Commission Act 1992, the IASC has invited other applications for capacity on the route, with the closing date for applying next Wednesday (15 August 2018).
