Indonesia’s electric and diverse cuisine will take centre stage at the second “Taste of Indonesia” Food Festival at Café Mix from 16 to 26 August 2018.

Guests are invited to embark on a culinary adventure of authentic dishes created by guest chefs Rizal Nadution and Irwanto of Shangri-La Hotel, Surabaya, who have flown in for the festival. Rich in a diverse culinary history, Indonesian food is known for its intense contrasting flavours and exotic ingredients.

Influences from India, the Middle East and China are showcased in regional specialities that can be found in abundance across the country’s 6,000 islands.

Paying homage to the true essence of Indonesian cuisine, the buffet includes popular national dishes, such as Nasi Goreng Jawa, Beef Rendang, Balinese Chicken Salad and Gado Gado. Guests will finish on a sweet note with some of South East Asia’s most exciting traditional desserts, including Pisang Goreng, Dadar Gulung and Es Kopyor.

The humid Indonesian climate and rich volcanic soil ensure that spices, tropical fruits and nourishing root vegetables are found in great wealth. Spices are prized not only for their flavour, but also for their health benefits.

Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney’s Executive Chef Hemant Dadlani is delighted to host the hotel’s second “Taste of Indonesia” at Café Mix.

“The Indonesians show their creativity in their selection of spices, particularly relying on intense seasoning for flavour, such as tamarind, lime, sweet soy sauce and spicy chili,” Chef Dadlani said.

Café Mix has fast become known as a home for international food festivals and a sumptuous seafood selection. “Taste of Indonesia” is available during the buffet lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. at $65 per person.
