Australia India Business Council (AIBC) and Australia India Travel & Tourism Council (AITTC) added a key milestone in the chapter of Australia-India bilateral relationship by recently signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together on relevant initiatives, thus offering a complete platform covering all areas of business between the two nations including travel and tourism.
The formal signing in ceremony was held on 3 July at the Sofitel Wentworth Hotel in Sydney in presence of many dignitaries which included Mr. B. Vanlalvawna, Consul General of India in Sydney; Mr. Paul Myler, Assistant Secretary, India and Indian Ocean at Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Mr. R. B Karjee Second Secretary Indian High Commission; Rhonda Piggott, NSW State Director, DFAT and many more from the government and industry.
AIBC was founded in 1986 and is the only national body representing bi-lateral trade and investment relations between Australia and India. The AIBC is a national membership organisation with active chapters in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra and maintains close relationships with federal and state government agencies, the diplomatic corps and industry bodies, and showcases opportunities to the Australian business community through an active program of events throughout Australia.
Founded in 2012, AITTC represents the passion and enthusiasm of organisations and individuals from across the travel and tourism industry in Australia and India, keen to enhance and influence bilateral tourist traffic movement between two nations. It’s the only body driving bi-lateral travel and tourism relations between Australia and India. Its membership represents a wide spectrum of the industry from airlines, hotels, tour operators, travel agents, tourism bodies to travel media professionals. AITTC aims to work through its members to ultimately see growth in number of tourists stepping on both the countries.
While retaining their own identity and organisational goals intact, this MOU will see the two councils working together for the common and mutually beneficial goals of promoting the bilateral business including travel and tourism in both countries.
Under this MOU, AIBC in principle will acknowledge AITTC fulfilling the role of ‘Travel & Tourism’ business function. Accordingly, all relevant ‘Travel & Tourism’ enquiries/opportunities will be directed to AITTC.
Ms. Sheba Nandkeolyar, National Chair AIBC and Mr. Sandip Hor Chairman AITTC both see this MOU as a giant step forward to bring the two organisations closer to add more value to the bilateral relationship.
Commenting on the milestone, Sheba Nandkeolyar said: “With the proposed launch of the India Economic strategy, the Australia-India relationship is poised to take a leap. I believe travel and tourism will be a major facet of this bilateral relationship, hence this MoU comes at an opportune time.”
Echoing Ms Nandkeolyar’s sentiments, Sandip Hor added: “It is indeed an opportune time for this MoU and partnership with AIBC to offer a complete platform for all bilateral business opportunities.”
