akyra Manor Chiang Mai, the stylish and intimate all-suite hotel in Thailand’s northern capital, started to celebrate its third anniversary by hosting a bakery workshop as part of an ongoing series of volunteer activities at the local Sungwan Wittaya School.

The event saw the hotel’s chef teach the schoolchildren and their teachers how to bake cupcakes, which the students then sold to tourists outside Wat Phra That Doi Suthep – the destination’s iconic hilltop Buddhist temple located close to the school.

The aim was to provide children and their teachers with a practical new skill whilst also introducing them to the fundamentals of starting and running a small business – knowledge the students may benefit from later in life. The sale of the cupcakes also generated additional funds for the school.

The bakery workshop marks the latest in a series of CSR activities conducted by akyra Manor Chiang Mai to help Sungwan Wittaya School, all of which aim to assist the students and improve the school’s facilities.

“Akaryn Hotel Group was founded on the principles of social responsibility, and our continued support for the school is just one example of how this approach is ingrained in our DNA,” commented Christophe Gestin, General Manager, akyra Manor Chiang Mai.

“The kids at Sungwan Wittaya are fantastic and our team members really enjoy interacting with them. We look forward to our next visit and making a positive difference,” he added.

Other activities the hotel team has planned for the school include helping with structural improvements to the canteen and washrooms, as well as extending water pipes, planting a vegetable garden, and running a workshop on hygiene and cleanliness.

akyra Manor Chiang Mai officially celebrates its third anniversary in September 2018, and throughout its first three years of operations the hotel has been involved in a number of CSR initiatives. Most recently the hotel became the second hotel in the AYARYN Hotel Group to eliminate single-use plastic – following in the footsteps of its newly launched sister property, akyra TAS Sukhumvit Bangkok.

Environmental initiatives include replacing plastic water bottles with refillable aluminium ones, switching out the plastic containers used for bathroom amenities with ceramics, and using bio-degradable rubbish bags.

“We are extremely proud of akyra Manor Chiang Mai and its success over the last three years,” said Anchalika Kijkanakorn, Founder and Managing Director.

“In a relatively short period, our excellent team has established the property as one of the city’s best hotels while also making sure they give back to the local community and the natural world. This has made it a worthy flagship for the akyra brand.”

In recognition of its unique appeal, akyra Manor Chiang Mai has received a number of domestic and international accolades, including the Asian Lifestyle Tourism Awards 2017 – Best Honeymoon Resort Destination in Thailand, the Boutique Hotel Award 2017 – Southeast Asia’s Best City Hotel,  Best of the Best 2017 Awards  – Best Boutique Hotel in Chiang Mai by Exotiq Thailand, and the Haute Grandeur Global Hotel Awards 2017 – Best All-Suite Hotel (Worldwide) and Best Boutique Hotel (Thailand).

To celebrate its third anniversary, akyra Manor Chiang Mai has introduced a special package that allows guests to enjoy the luxurious urban lifestyle on offer at this intimate boutique hotel, while also discovering the historic charms of Chiang Mai.

The package offers 30% off best available rates for a three-night stay, plus three exclusive benefits: one private transfer from the airport to the hotel; one afternoon tea set for two people; and a half-day temple tour of Chiang Mai’s ancient walled city. The other akyra properties within Akaryn Hotel Group in Bangkok and Phuket are also supporting the offer for pre- and post-stays with a 30% discount on their best available rates.
