Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises has announced in a statement that Pacific Princess, the 16th out of the 19 ships to be sold by Carnival has been sold.

She said that the sale of the 670 guest capacity ship, the smallest in the current Princess fleet and generally small by today’s Carnival standards, was to an undisclosed buyer, with the sale of Pacific Princess in line with Carnival Corporation’s plan to accelerate the removal of less efficient ships from its fleet, according to a statement.

The Pacific Princess first joined the cruise line’s fleet in 2002, up the demise of Renaissance Cruises, originally entering service in 1999 as R3 for Renaissance Cruises.

She has since sailed more than 1.6 million nautical miles and 11 world cruises.

Jan Swartz said, “Pacific Princess holds so many memories and cherished experiences to all who sailed upon her,” adding, “Pacific Princess offered a traditional style of cruising to unique destinations”, and “While it’s difficult to say goodbye to our ‘Love Boat,’ our World Cruise and exotic itineraries continue onboard our Medallion Class-enabled Island Princess and Coral Princess,.
