The first day of a luxury cruise is always a momentous occasion, especially if the ship is special. More a large yacht than a small ship, Sea Cloud II is the sister ship of the original Sea Cloud, which indeed was the private yacht of American heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. At the time of its construction in 1932, Sea Cloud was the largest yacht in the world. Though there are far larger private vessels on the high seas today, a sense of opulence remains aboard Sea Cloud II, where spacious suites have windows and fireplaces like Park Avenue apartments. Yes, fireplaces on a ship—electric, of course—certainly add a homelike feel to a maritime stateroom. The marble bathrooms with bathtubs also enhance the feeling of grandeur.

Croatia has become one of the most popular cruise destinations in the world, and it is easy to understand why. With a long coastline and many islands, Croatia’s beauty abounds in dramatic landscapes and colourful seas, more generally associated with tropical destinations far from Europe.
